Student charity fundraiser raises awareness of Southend sight loss charity

Travel and Tourism students at South Essex College’s Southend campus hosted a charity fundraiser to raise money for well-known local sight loss charity, Southend in Sight.

The event was inspired by a recent talk early last year where a representative from the charity educated students about the effects of sight loss.

Macy, a student at South Essex College has a close personal relative affected by sight loss and reached out to the organisation to help give back to this fantastic cause.
The level 3 year 2 students organised the event as part of their conference and events unit, raising funds with a variety of activities such as cake sales, raffles, prizes, sweets and hot chocolate stands.

Collectively the students raised a whopping £142 with all funds going directly to the charity.

Catherine Hodgson, Community Fundraiser for Southend in Sight, said: “It was great to attend the event the students had arranged. Southend in Sight would like to thank everyone involved in holding this event to raise funds for the charity. Sight loss and visual impairment affects all ages so it was fantastic to highlight the services we offer.”
