Apprenticeships
Want to be an apprentice?
Apprenticeships are a perfect alternative to university or college for many people because you can work while you study.
An apprenticeship is a great way to gain the skills, knowledge, experience and the qualifications you need to get into many careers. They combine work, training, and study, letting you 'earn while you learn'.
There are many apprenticeships available across a wide range of industries, and for over 1,500 job roles. As a paid employee, each apprentice works alongside their studies. There are no student fees – your training costs are funded by the government and your employer.
Apprenticeships would suit someone who is:
- Willing to commit to work and study, but would prefer a more practical and work-related approach to learning
- Ready to start work with an employer and be based in the workplace most of the time
- Well organised and able to cope with the competing demands of work and academic study at the same time
- Ready to be assessed through a mix of assignments and written work, including essays, reports, practical exercises, end tests, and exams
Apprenticeships are an excellent path for people at any stage of their career, from those starting out, to those re-entering the workforce, or those wanting to reskill or change careers.
You can apply for an apprenticeship if you will be 16 or over at the commencement of the apprenticeship as long as you are not in full time education. Apprenticeships are no longer just for school leavers, anyone over the age of 16 can apply!
If you are looking to progress in your career or are looking for your first job, an apprenticeship could make a big difference.
