Health and social care students raise money for multiple charities

Students studying health and social care at South Essex College were given the opportunity to host a multiple charity fundraiser as part of their assessed assignment.

On Tuesday 3 December, second year Level 3 students at the Southend Campus, were tasked with creating their own charity stand using information they gathered from the charity to present to the public and help raise money.

The students worked hard to create exciting and innovative stalls that focused on topics such as: Parkinson’s, diabetes, dementia, climate change, mental health, teenage pregnancy, stress, anxiety, drug and alcohol awareness, autism, obesity, congenital heart defects, asthma, Crohn’s disease, breast cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Money raised on each stall went to the individual charity, it was an excellent way to challenge students and put their learning into practise in a fun and interactive setting.

Claire Hopkinson, Health and Science Lecturer, said: “It was a really successful day and all the students worked hard to create their own resources to give away, they contacted external agencies for information and raised funds for several charities.

“This was an assessed assignment teaching them the skills to promote health, educate others and how to engage people in a learning activity. Without a doubt they have all done very well.”
