Overview

This course is delivered as a day release programme, Learners will attend College 1 day per week to undertake both theoretical and practical training. Learners will develop skills, knowledge and behaviour which are essential for anyone wishing to pursue a career as an automotive technician for Light Vehicles.

Entry Requirements

  • Employed in a trade/industry related to the apprenticeship.
    You will need to find employment in a related trade/industry before applying for the apprenticeship programme you wish to complete.
  • A*-C 9/4 Grade GSCE or Level 2 functional skills in English & maths

Course Structure

The apprentice will learn the following:

  • The basics of vehicle and emerging technologies
  • Types and characteristics of light vehicles
  • Diagnostic principles
  • Basic tasks common to all procedures
  • How to maintain a safe and efficient workshop
  • Using specialist equipment
  • Servicing & maintaining a vehicle without supervision
  • Instigating & identifying faults
  • Removing, repairing & replacing parts In line with manufacturer’s standards

An Apprenticeship Standard programme is occupation focused and concentrates on the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours required to complete the programme successfully.
