Overview
Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technicians will undertake installation, testing, servicing, removal, replacement, maintenance and repair of a range of equipment, sometimes complex, as part of planned preventative and reactive maintenance programmes. They may also undertake decommissioning activities when plant is being removed from service.
Apprentices will be required to attend college 1 day per week at our Luckyn Lane Campus to undertake both practical and theoretical training.
Skills covered within this apprenticeship may include:
- Apply safe systems of working
- Make a technical contribution to either the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, systems, processes or services
- Apply proven techniques and procedures to solve engineering/manufacturing problems
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in communicating both technical and non-technical information
- Have a commitment to continued professional development

Entry Requirements
Minimum entry criteria:
- Employed in a trade/industry related to the apprenticeship.
- Age restrictions: 16+
- GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or Functional Skill in Maths Level 2
- GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or Functional Skill in English Level 2
- Working in a job role such as Electrical Technicians; Mechanical Technicians; Control & Instrumentation Technicians; Wind Turbine Technicians Electrical System and Process Control Technicians; Electromechanical Technicians and Plant Operations Technicians.
Course Structure
- Practical Training Period – 36 months
- Assessment Period – 3 months

Some of the elements that you will complete as part of your apprenticeship include:
- comply with industry health, safety and environmental working practices and regulations
- locate, and rectify faults on plant and equipment
- communicate with and provide information to stakeholders in line with personal role and responsibilities
- read, understand and interpret information and work in compliance with technical specifications and supporting documentation
- prepare work areas to undertake work related activities and reinstate those areas after the completion of the work related activities
- inspect and maintain appropriate plant and equipment to meet operational requirements
- assess and test the performance and condition of plant and equipment
- communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification
Assessment & Feedback
Apprenticeship Standard
This standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.
What Next...
Apprentices that successfully complete this apprenticeship would be able to continue in to higher education.
At the end of your apprenticeship, the college will work with you and your employer to help you to progress to next level of training or gain full-time employment.
